Tamarack (and a bee)

Tamarack (Larix laricina) buds are strange-looking; they're globe-shaped, deep orange, and so shiny that they look wet. The larger buds in the second photo look to me like they're starting to open. Also shown: tamarack cone (and more buds) and tamarack bark. The last photo shows a lovely little bee that landed on me while I was taking pictures of the tamarack, and which I have not yet attempted to identify.
