Ask a Fairy: Our Fairy Friends are Back!

By Thimble & Blossom

We eagerly await the fall season, because with it comes apples season, vibrant fall colors, and of course - visiting fairies! Our woodland fairy friends will be visiting the North Country on their migration south for the winter from October 12th - 28th. You're invited to find their homes and leave notes with your nature questions inside. Please also leave your first name and age, so the fairies can address you personally when they reply. The faires' answers will be available after October 31st at: natureupnorth.org/askafairy

Fairies build their houses to blend in with the surroundings, so they can be tricky to find. Fortunately, they've left a set of clues to help you find them:

Red Sandstone Trail (south entrance)

Hannawa Falls, NY

With forest to the left, and the river to the right,

you'll be walking along, not a fairy in sight

but follow this path, past tables and signs,

and soon look to the right for a long laying pine

behind this massive tree trunk, laying long and low,

is our little birch home, the best of show.

The Nicandri Nature Center

Massena, NY

We love every bird, bee and even bug,

And have many such friends here to visit and hug.

Find the Green trail, and head out on your way

Up past the meadow, what does this turkey sign say?

Turn on the trail, and a few paces on the left you'll see,

Our home in the woods, behind a big old ash tree!

Heritage Park

Canton, NY

This trail is so simple, and yet so sweet,

we crave water and woods, and the places they meet

After the bridge, go left if you will,

And follow the path on down the hill.

When the trail levels out, take the route to the right.

Soon you'll see our festive home, it's quite the sight!

By Thimble & Blossom

Thimble and Blossom are two traveling woodland fairies who love to migrate through the North Country on their way towards the tropical forests where they spend their winter. Thimble loves spending his time exploring the tops of trees and enjoys surfing down the falling leaves in autumn. Blossom likes to spend many of her afternoons befriending bees and butterflies in the forest. She also loves to take dewdrop baths every morning while listening to morning birdsong. Because they live in the woods, Thimble and Blossom have learned a lot about North Country plants and animals throughout the years. They're very excited to share their knowledge with you!
