Driving along a back road near Canton, NY, baron trees along a river disappear into the fog. Fog occurs when water droplets are trapped close to the surface of the Earth. Technically fog is characterized as a type of stratus cloud, but most people distinguish fog from clouds because it is so low-lying and is usually produced from a local body of water, in this case the river.
