Community Paddle on the Little River
Join us for a relaxing evening paddling on the Little River in Canton. Bring your own canoe or kayak, or borrow one from us for free. Never paddled before? No problem! We're happy to provide tips for newer paddlers. Meet at the Little River Boat Launch on Park Street/Rt. 27 in Canton at 6:30 pm. Campfire: Fire-Making with Len Mackey
Join us to celebrate summer with our first community campfire! You’re invited to help light the fire using traditional fire-starting methods. Guest Len Mackey will be joining us for an interactive evening learning the Earth's oldest ways of making fire with hand or bow drill.
Mother's Day Frog & Salamander Walk
It's a great time of year to find frogs and salamanders! Join us for a fun Mother's Day outing at SLU Environmental Studies Department's Living Lab site to on Hwy 68 to explore the secret world of amphibians. Guest naturalist Kristine Hoffmann will lead the group to the vernal pools at the site in search of spring amphibians that come to these special, temporary pools to breed, like wood frogs and spotted salamanders.
Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (movie)
Everyone is invited to a showing of the movie “Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch”. The movie will be shown in the Romer Room at the Canton Unitarian-Universalist Church, 3½ Main Street, in Canton.
Peter Rabbit in the Park, Canton
The Canton Chamber of Commerce is hosting their annual Peter Rabbit in the Park event on April 13th! There will be free activities for kids from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin promptly at noon. Children under 6 can participate with a chance to grab up to 12 eggs. There will be a chance to win some prizes during the egg hunt as well.
Please remember to return all plastic eggs at the end of the hunt so they can be reused next year.
Conservation in Clay Art & Science Reception
Conservation in Clay: natural history and modern threats to New York’s native amphibians and reptiles
Community members are invited to a free art and science exhibition at Launder's Science Library on the St. Lawrence campus. Enjoy ceramic sculptures featuring some of New York State’s most exciting amphibians and reptiles. Hidden inside each work is a smaller sculpture that tells the story of the animal’s ecology or causes of population declines for a truly educational exhibition.
