A Blurry Bobcat

The photo is blurry, so you'll just have to trust me on this one. I was sitting in my car lacing up my shoes for a run on the Clarkson trails when a young bobcat climbed out of a nearby brush pile and walked out into the middle of the dirt service road. I jumped out of the car with my phone in hand, and was only able to capture this blurry photo before it scampered off into the brush. You can barely make out its blurry form in the center of the photo, just above the cut logs. It was a young bobcat, distinguishable from a domestic cat by its stout body shape, short tail, dark ears, and ruffed fur on its cheeks.

I attempted a futile search for tracks for several minutes before giving up and going for my late afternoon trail run.

What an unexpected encounter, it's too bad you weren't able to capture it before it scampered off! I happened to see one driving down Corey's Road in the Adirondacks at 4am but it was too quick to get a good look in the dark. I'm pretty sure it was a bobcat due to its size, short tail and markings.
