North Country explorer from Brewster, New York
Type: Movement
Habitat description: The Stone Valley hiking trail is located in the town of Colton. The trail system covers approximately 9.7 miles.
Natural history information: Ice is water frozen into a solid state. It can appear transparent or opaque bluish-white color, depending on the presence of impurities such as soil particles or air inclusions. Clear blue/black ice is stronger than milky white ice. Ice near the shore is weakest. The shifting, expansion and buckling action of the lake or stream over the winter continually breaks and refreezes ice along the shoreline.
