Biodiversity Research Institute’s (BRI’s) Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation and the Paul Smith’s College VIC are teaming together to present a celebration of one of the Adirondack’s most iconic birds – the Common Loon.
This unique, free, and fun-filled “loony” day will include activities for the whole family, complete with:
> A loon calling contest;
> Merriloons the Clown to entertain the kids with face-painting, balloons, and more;
> A concert by Jamie Savage, an exceptional Adirondack singer-songwriter;
> A field trip to observe loon behavior first-hand;
> A scavenger hunt;
> A silent auction; > A presentation and display about loon natural history and conservation; and
> A loon quilt raffle (raffle tickets for the beautiful hand-made loon quilt ($5 each or 6 tickets for $25) can be downloaded at www.briloon.org/adkloon to keep the “loon lover” in your life warm this winter. A photo of the quilt center is also available at www.briloon.org/adkloon).
The results of the ongoing raffle for the fabulous queen-sized loon quilt will be also announced at a reception in the late afternoon. Additionally, the Adirondack Interpretive Center’s humorous little rubber loons will be on hand for purchase — these comical birds make a great gift! Delicious loon-related food will also be available throughout the day.
