Our Nocturnal Neighbors: A Naturalist Walk

Event date and time
May 4, 2023 - 6:30 PM to May 4, 2023 - 8:00 PM

Who's hooting and howling in your backyard as the sun sets and night falls? Can you recognize the signs and sounds of our nocturnal neighbors?

Join Nature Up North, Friends of Higley Flow State Park, and Cornell Cooperative Extension for an evening naturalist walk at Higley Flow State Park to learn about the nocturnal and crepuscular critters that call the North Country home. We'll talk about the echolocation skills of bats, practice our owl calls, learn why opossums are "op-awesome," and more! There are so many amazing nighttime animals that are busy when we're sleeping, we can't wait to learn about them with you.

Not only will we talk about these creatures, but throughout the walk we'll be using bat detection technology to monitor for the flying mammals. If we are lucky enough to see bats, we might even be able to identify what species they are with the bat detector!

To be a part of this naturalist walk, meet at the Friends of Higley Flow Lodge/Nature Center at 6:30pm on Thursday, May 4th. Parking is available at the lodge. The lodge is on the right side of the main entrance road (Higley Flow State Park Rd.) off of Cold Brook Drive.

This event is free and perfect for all ages. Registration is not required but appreciated. Reach out to info@natureupnorth.org or contact @natureupnorth on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with any questions.
