The St. Lawrence Land Trust is celebrating International Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day with a bird walk at the new DEC Nichols Pool Trail in the Wilson Hill Wildlife Management Area in Louisville, Sat. May 14 7 am – 10:00 am led by Jeff Bolsinger. Some of the birds that breed at Wilson Hills WMA are bald eagles, common loons, osprey, bobolinks, American bitterns, wood ducks, wild turkeys, mallards, ruffed grouse, and American woodcock. The trail is little more than 1 mile with three observation areas and overlooks the recently completed Nichols Pool Habitat Improvement Project. It is a perfect time of year to be on the trails and looking for birds. We will meet at the trailhead. In the event of heavy rain the trip will be postponed.
The trailhead is at the north end of Sand Rd. located at the west end of Wilson Hill WMA off of State Highway 37. Sand Rd. is approximately 2 miles west of the intersection or Rt. 37 and County Rt. 14 and 1.3 miles east of Coles Creek Marina on State Highway 37.
