Nature Up North March 2019 Teacher Workshop
Are you a k-12 teacher in the North Country? Take your science outside with us and learn to use place-based, local citizen science projects to meet Next Generation Science Standards at this CTLE approved workshop!
Join the staff from Nature Up North at St. Lawrence University for an opportunity to (re)discover outdoor teaching as a way to motivate students and teach science standards. If you are new to Nature Up North, we will introduce you to our program, materials for teachers, and local citizen science projects that can be carried out right on your school’s grounds. If you have previously worked with Nature Up North, we will use the time for more advanced workshops on using data from the Citizen Science projects in the classroom for instruction on creating and interpreting graphs. There will also be time available for other topics, including 1) a new grant opportunity we have received to compensate teachers for curriculum development, and 2) working on better integrating your classroom needs with our products.
Target audience: Middle and Highschool science teachers. May also be appropriate for late-elementary and middle-school ELA teachers wishing to use e.g. examples of local scientists as informational texts and for any teachers looking for reliable resources about the local environment.
