Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is an invasive forest pest that is spreading through New York. While it has not yet been detected in the Tug Hill region, an infestation was recently confirmed on the shores of Lake George in the Adirondacks. The Lake George HWA infestation was first identified by a camper from downstate, who had HWA on their property and recognized it at the Lake George campground and reported it. This report has lead to a rapid response effort to treat hemlock trees to control the spread of HWA through the Adirondacks and beyond.
