The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation invites one and all to celebrate Common Loons, the fascinating icon of the Adirondack, at the Paul Smith’s College VIC (8023 NYS Rte. 30) from 1-4:30pm on Sunday, October 10th.

This free, fun-filled “loony” day will feature activities for the whole family, including:
 1-4:30pm:
o Children's crafts, scavenger hunt, and activities
o Penelope the Clown will be making balloon sculptures and doing face-painting
o Silent Auction
o Food available for purchase from Mac’s Mobile Eats
o Beer available for purchase from Hex and Hop

 2-3:00pm: Presentation by author Dr. Jim Paruk: Loon Lessons: Uncommon Encounters with the Great Northern Diver”

 3:15 pm: Hornbeck Canoe raffle drawing

 3:30-4:30pm: Music by Dan Berggren and Tyler Dezago, reception, and silent auction

At the Loon Celebration, we will pull the winning raffle ticket for a special Hornbeck boat that was donated to the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, allowing us to raise money and awareness for the conservation of Common Loons, Gavia immer, within the Adirondack Park.

“We are very thankful to Pete Hornbeck, along with Dan Berggren, Tom Bessette, Tom Curley, Neal Estano, Mike Prescott, and Dr. Daniel Way for building this amazing, one-of-a-kind boat just for us!” said Dr. Nina Schoch, Executive Director of Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation. “It is signed by each LEAG member and displays a beautiful loon on both sides of the boat.”

“Loon Lessons: Uncommon Encounters with the Great Northern Diver” by Dr. Jim Paruk is an evolutionary approach to understanding loon behavior and life history strategy. One of the world’s foremost loon scientists, Dr. Paruk is a Professor of Biology at St. Joseph’s College in Maine, and has been studying Common Loons across North America for the past 28 years.

“The day will be an exciting opportunity to learn about loon natural history and conservation, and our loon research and projects in the Adirondacks.” said Jennifer Denny, Education Coordinator for Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, “We hope everyone enjoys Dan and Tyler’s wonderful music, excellent food by Mac’s Mobile Diner and drinks from Hex and Hop, and the amazing venue.”
