North Country explorer from Amesbury
During our adventure in Lampson Falls for our lab on February 18th, we saw many animal tracks. Deep within the softwood forest, I saw white-tailed deer tracks scattered around. This pair of animal tracks stuck out to me in particular because it was crisp and seemed to be relatively fresh tracks in the snow. I wondered if the deer had just passed through before us five minutes earlier. White-tailed deer are a medium-sized deer located in the United States, Canada, and in Central and South America. These deer are mainly foraging species that consume legumes, shoots, and leaves, and interestingly enough, White-tailed deer have a four-chambered stomach! Each chamber serves a specific purpose, which allows the deer to eat a variety of different food.
