Giant Moose
Taken Wednesday, February 19th at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY

One of the exhibits at the Wild Center features this giant stuffed moose. I took this picture because this is the closest I have come to ever seeing a real moose, something I have always longed for. I never realized how big they were and I hope this picture gives an idea of a moose’s potential size. I am 6’3” holding the camera at a normal height and I am still barely in front of its nose. Artistically, I believe this perspective is key to the photo. The moose population in the Adirondacks has been growing in the past 30 or so years, growing from almost zero individuals. They can be found in ponds foraging for lily pads. Moose can weigh up to 1200 pounds so they need a lot of salad. Today, the biggest restricting factor in moose population growth is collisions with vehicles, followed by illegal hunting.
