Tick Talk!
Paul Hetzler, Horticulture and Natural Resources Educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension will present a free, informative talk about the pest that has been "ticking" us all off lately!! Not only does the deer tick pester our friends in the forests, but he is bugging our household pets and is gnawing away at our pleasure in interacting with nature in the warmer months of the year; our favorite time of year! Mr. Hetzler has all the tormenting facts about ticks, suggestions for avoiding or repelling them, and recommendations for removal and treatment.
Kids Learn All About Butterflies
Kids 5 - 12-years-old can learn all about the life cycle of the butterfly, survival, migration and go on a butterfly scavenger hunt along the trails at the Massena Nature Center. Event is Saturday, September 13 from 1 - 3pm at the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center.
Meadow Adventures
Kids 5 - 12-years-old are invited to Robert Moses State Park Nature Center in Massena for a free nature day camp from 10am - 1pm, Monday, Aug 25 - Friday, Aug 29th. Each day a different topic will be explored. Kids will take a guided hike through the trails and learn something new about nature. Fun, hands-on activities and games are planned daily. Bring a lunch and a drink. Parents can drop off at 10am and pick up at 1pm. Dress for weather, wearing closed-toed shoes & bug spray. Call ahead to sign-up. Class size is limited. (315) 705-5022.
Learn about the Earth's Water Cycle
Kids 5 - 12-years-old are invited to the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center for an afternoon of learning all about the Earth’s Water Cycle including hands-on science projects demonstrating evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
Kids will take a guided hike while identifying clouds, rivers, and ponds. They will observe record and document the changes that take place in areas where water collects. Findings will be documented with digital cameras and in journals. Photos will be uploaded onto the Jr. Earth Keepers Facebook page.
Jr Earth Keeper Club Meeting
Jr Earth Keepers Club meets on Saturday, July 12th from 1 – 3pm. During the July club meeting, kids will learn all about birds including habitats, migration, and what makes a bird a bird. Using iPad apps and bird “Identi-flyers” kids will hear different bird calls and play bird games. Kids will take a guided hike and, using apps and/or guide books, identify the types of birds found on the trails. Findings can be documented with digital cameras and in journals. Photos will be uploaded onto the Jr. Earth Keepers Facebook page.
