Woodland Fairies Visit North Country Trails

Follow the clues below to visit the woodland fairies this spring and ask them your nature questions!

Woodland Fairies Visit North Country Trails

By Thimble & Blossom

The fairies are here, the fairies are here!

Each spring a merry group of fairies migrates through the North Country on their way home for the summer. These aren't just any fairies – these fairies live in the woods, where they spend their days bonding with birds, talking with trees, buzzing with bugs, and getting friendly with fungi. As you might guess, over time they’ve become expert naturalists. For a limited time only, you’ll have the chance to visit their fairy houses and ask them any questions you have about nature.

The North Country fairies can be found in three places during their visit (locations below). At any time between May 7th - June 1st, find their homes using the clues below and leave notes with your nature questions inside. Please also leave your first name and age, so the fairies can address you personally when they reply.

*Check out natureupnorth.org/askafairy  after June 6th to see the fairies' answers to your questions!

Fairies build their houses to blend in with the surroundings, so they can be tricky to find. Here's the set of clues they left to help you find them!

Bend in the River Park (Canton)

Coordinates: Latitude 44.585278°, Longitude -75.176389°

To find our hidden home you'll need to be clever,

First, follow the path along the bend in the river.

Go past the blue benches and grills without concern,

And keep walking along until the path starts to turn

Now search for the big tree that’s all alone,

In the folds of its trucks, we have hidden our home!

Harper’s Falls Trail (Clare, NY)

Coordinates: Latitude 44.4365°,  Longitude -75.0742°

To visit our fairy home head on down the trail

You’ll pass two bridges, both with no rail

When you can just hear the roar of Harper’s Falls

Start looking close on the right, we aren’t very tall

Behind a pile of logs with a saw's clean mark,

Our home’s white roof is made of birch bark.

The Maple City Trail (Ogdensburg, NY)

**We are sorry, but this fairy house is no longer available to visit. Thimble & Blossom hope to visit Ogdensburg again in the future!

Enjoy your visit with the fairies, and remember, check for their responses to your questions at natureupnorth.org/askafairy after June 6th!

By Thimble & Blossom

Thimble and Blossom are two traveling woodland fairies who love to migrate through the North Country on their way towards the tropical forests where they spend their winter. Thimble loves spending his time exploring the tops of trees and enjoys surfing down the falling leaves in autumn. Blossom likes to spend many of her afternoons befriending bees and butterflies in the forest. She also loves to take dewdrop baths every morning while listening to morning birdsong. Because they live in the woods, Thimble and Blossom have learned a lot about North Country plants and animals throughout the years. They're very excited to share their knowledge with you!
