This is a photo of a Raven, most likely the Common Raven, taken at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. This is one of two Ravens that are at the Center. The Center has taken in these birds because they are in need of assistance, most likely because of some physical ailment they have. With that said, this Raven would most likely not be able to survive on its own in the wild. This species of bird is most often characterized by its color scheme: dark black feathers accompanied by large, black marble eyes. Unlike its similar-looking counterpart, the crow, Ravens are much larger and their chirps are much louder and ear-piercing. What I find most interesting about this photo is the bird itself -- I had never seen a Raven up close and was shocked and allured by the bird's shear size. It had a lot of mass and its beak protruded from its head with authority!
