Sugar maples are essential North Country trees. In the face of climate change, there is concern about how a warming and increasingly unpredictable climate will affect both sugar maple health and maple syrup production. Through Nature Up North's Monitor My Maple project, North Country residents are mobilizing to collect data on how climate, habitat, and human activities affect local sugar maples.
In this workshop, which is part of the Local Living Festival, we will introduce the Monitor My Maple project and teach attendees how to participate. By creating a network of local residents monitoring tree health, we can gain a wealth of information about our local environment. Participants will leave the workshop fully trained to help us collect important data this fall. The first half of the workshop will be indoors, followed by an outdoor training session.
