National Kids to Parks Day - May 17th
In honor of National Kids to Parks Day, the Massena Nature Center is hosting a spring clean-up activity for kids 5 – 12-years-old on Saturday, May 17th from 1 – 3pm. Following the clean-up activity, kids will go on a guided hike to collect geometry in nature. All items will be grouped by shape, photographed, and posted onto Facebook. This event is part of the Jr. Earth Keepers club hosted by the Massena Nature Center, 19 Robinson Bay Rd., Massena. Call (315) 705-5022 for details. www.massenanaturecenter.org.
Adirondack Wildlife Refuge Educational Presentation
Join the team from the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge out of Wilmington, NY in an educational presentation on birds of prey and other predators. Learn more about these beautiful creatures and about wildlife rehabilitation efforts in the North Country. Meet a Red Fox, an Arctic Fox and various birds of prey up-close. All ages welcome! Free event. Donations are accepted.
Jr Earth Keepers
Kids 5 - 12! Join our Free Nature Club!
Join the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge team as they talk about the importance of predators, and how they make a positive impact on man. Meet live animals including various birds of prey, a Red fox and an Arctic fox.
Following the educational presentation, Jr.Earth Keepers will play the "Feed the Wild Animal" game. Teams will match-up various food groups to the animals that consume them.

Kids 5 - 12 years old! Become stewards of the Massena Nature Center.
Jr.Earth Keepers will participate in some simple spring clean-up activities to show environmental preservation skills, and develop an understanding of what it takes to be an environmental ambassador in their community.

Celebrate Earth Day! Become a citizen scientist. Kids 5 - 12 can get "STEM-me" at the Massena Nature Center in honor of Earth Day. Take a guided hike to tally local species and learn about diversity. Kids will document findings with digital cameras, and use GPS units to mark coordinates. Each spotting will be identified by using Field Guide apps on tables and SMART phones. Following the hike, photos will be uploaded onto the "Project Noah" website and onto the Jr.Earth Keeper Facebook page.
Guided Moonlight Ski & Snowshoe
Join us as The Friends of the Robert Moses Nature Center takes explorers through the trails at night under the light of the full moon. The trails are easy to hike or snowshoe. Fun for all ages. Skiers must be experienced. Enjoy marshmallows around the fire afterwards. Bring snowshoes or skis, or rent them for $4/set. Meet at the trailhead. Participants should dress for weather. Animal Tracking
Come out and see how many animals we can identify through the trails at the Robert Moses Nature Center. Then, using GPS units, let's document animal activity. Free event for children 5 - 12-years-old. Saturday, Dec 7th from 1 - 3pm. Call (315) 705-5022 to sign-up.
Pet Costume Contest
Dogs, Cats, Turtle...hedgehogs! Bring your little minion out to the Massena Nature Center dressed in their best Halloween Costumes for judging. Prizes will be awarded for funniest, cutest and scariest! Fun for the whole family.
Nature Photography Workshop
The Friends of the Nature Center in Massena are holding a photography workshop from 1pm– 3pm on Saturday, October 19. Join Charlene Dumas, self-taught photography enthusiast, as she leads you through the basics of nature photography on the beautiful trails at the Robert Moses Nature Center. This autumn session is part of a series of four classes. Participants are able to observe and document nature as it changes through the seasons. The trails are easy to hike. Bring your camera and dress for weather. This workshop is free of charge and appropriate for teens and adults.
Massena Nature Center Community Clean-up Day
Fall Clean-up Day at the Robert Moses Nature Center will be Saturday, Oct. 19th from 9am-1pm. Everyone is invited to come out and lend a hand. We will be cleaning up the trails, raking leaves and getting ready for winter. Additionally, if we can get at least 20 Alcoa employees to come out and volunteer for 4 hours, the Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc. will receive $3000 as part of the "Alcoa Action Grant." Snacks and refreshments will be served to all the volunteers, so come out one and all and get into the green.
