Outdoor Meditation Circle

Come out to the Massena Nature Center and celebrate the beauty of the changing season. Join our outdoor meditation circle for a guided meditation and then a short guided walk through the trails reflecting inwardly and connecting deeply with nature. Meet at the trail head at 1pm. Yoga mats and chairs provided.

Make Bittersweet Wreaths

Event description

Come out to the Robert Moses Nature Center to do a craft in nature. Using pruners, you will harvest your own bittersweet vine and use it to create beautiful, seasonal decorative wreaths. Meet under the white tent by the trailhead. Bring pruners and gloves. $10 material fee.

Outdoor Meditation Circle

This month’s event will focus on creating Vision Boards (also called Treasure Mapping). Using magazine clippings, you can create colorful and inspiring collages. Based on the idea that consciousness can shape reality, Vision Boards are tools used to help gain insight, and reminders of what you would like to see happen in your life. When pre-registering, participants will be asked to bring a few old magazines and scissors to use in the project. All other materials will be supplied.

Trail Walking Club

For those looking for inspiration from our natural world, why not come out for a walk along the nature trails? Many agree that September has some of the year’s most beautiful weather of the year. On Saturday, September 14th, our monthly Walking Club meets at 11am for an hour-long, guided hike. It’s an excellent way to burn off some calories, enjoy the beauty around us and connect with others. Pedometers are available to use to track your distance. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Outdoor Yoga

Have you ever wanted to try yoga? What about yoga outdoors? Try a free class at the Nature Center on Saturday, August 31st from 10am – 11am. Local yoga instructor, Marie (Dolly) Kirwan, of “Yoga by the River” leads this beginner outdoor yoga class. This is a great opportunity for those who want to experience yoga for the first time, or for the experienced. Yoga outdoors adds a unique element to the exercise. Yoga mats are provided.

Free Mixed Media Art Workshop

Saturday and Sunday (Aug 10 & 11th) both from 2 – 4pm. Join North Country Artist, Sandra Taylor Hedges, for a mixed media workshop using acrylic paints and other media to create beautiful works of art. Sandra is a Graduate with Distinction from St. Lawrence College’s Fine Arts Program and recipient of the Academic Council Award for highest proficiency of her graduating class. She has been teaching painting and sculpting for over 17 years both privately and with other organizations. For the past 6 years, she has also taught at her studio which is now in Cornwall, Ontario.

Kids! Want to try an outdoor Kid’s Yoga Class? This class is geared just for the young and enthusiastic with games of “red light, green light” and “freeze-tag” as part of the lesson. Yoga mats are provided, just show-up by 10am, and be ready to have fun. Following the yoga class, kids can explore their creative side with a Nature-themed Craft at 11am.

Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center--Make Stuffed Cat Toys for the Humane Society

Event description

Want to take part in a fun outdoor craft - for a good cause. Join the Nature Center staff at 7pm, Saturday, to make stuffed cat toys (which will be donated to the Massena Humane Society). All materials are provided, but participants are asked to bring $1 donation, or a can of animal food. The stuffed mice and donations will be brought to the Humane Society the following Monday. All those who participated are welcome to be part of the donation presentation.
