We will walk along the wildflower trail and discuss ecological roles of various fungi as we explore the forest habitat. Try your luck at spotting birds, dragonflies, and pond life at the Indian Creek Nature Center with Nature Up North!

A bioblitz is a species scavenger hunt, a race against the clock, and a fun way to learn about the variety of life in an area. Join us this summer as we find and identify as many species as possible! All materials and instruction is provided, all ages are welcome, and it's free!

This Saturday, we'll be looking for birds, identifying dragonflies, and scooping in the pond to see what we can find. Come explore the board walk with us!

We will do a walk along the Tooley Pond Road, leaving the maintained trail occasionally, to see what butterflies might be about. Though the past is no guarantee of the future, last year around this time I found the largest number of species I’ve ever seen in the north country at this ordinary-looking site. Regardless, we’ll enjoy what we see, and will discuss their life histories, note the plants they lay their eggs on, which plants they get nectar from, and special adaptations that help them survive.

Each year National Moth Week highlights the ecological importance and incredible biodiversity of moths with locally sponsored “moth night” events across the country and around the world. Join us at ICNC this July for a night of discovery in celebration of NMW. We will set up a blacklight and use sugar baits to attract a variety of moths for us to identify, photograph, and discuss. Bring a headlamp or flashlight, a camera, and your curiosity. Mosquito repellent might be helpful as well.

Join staff from Nature Up North, Nicandri Nature Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and Indian Creek Nature Center for a four part series on North Country Nature in Flight this summer. Learn how a variety of different animals use flight to their advantage, whether that’s for finding food, showing off to others, or just getting around. Throughout this series we’ll learn to see the skies and its flying critters with a whole new perspective!

Join 4-H Camp Overlook Program Director Casey Sukeforth in a morning of child-friendly snowshoeing at Indian Creek. Come learn the basics of traveling in the snow as we look for signs of winter animal visitors at the center! Snowshoes can be borrowed from the center at no cost for children and their guardians.
