Sunday Nature Walk: Sugar Maples at Indian Creek
In the face of climate change, there is recent concern about how a warming and increasingly unpredictable climate will affect both sugar maple health and maple syrup production. Join us for a walk to discuss this potential threat to sugar maples, and learn to identify a variety of maples present on the trails. You'll also hear about ongoing research at St. Lawrence University, led by Nature Up North, monitoring the impact of changing temperatures on sugar maples here in the North Country.
FRUIT TREE SPRINGTIME CARE: PRUNING, DEVELOPMENT AND RESTORATION
A program to acquaint the novice as well as the more experienced fruit grower with tree care techniques from the ground up, from pruning and training young plants to renovating old, neglected trees. Master Gardener Don O’Shea, with decades of experience working with fruit trees, will share information on tree biology, pruning to enhance sound structural growth, fruit production and tree health, tool tips and mistakes to avoid. This class is free but pre-registration is required (important in case of changes due to bad weather). Call Don prior to the program date of April 13, 2019.
WINTER TRACKING
The ICNC hosts a wonderful array of interesting animals and fauna throughout the year. Peter O'Shea, local naturalist and author, will lead the group in identifying various creatures by their tracks and other unique features. If snow is sufficiently deep, trackers can bring their snowshoes or borrow them from the Nature Center. If no snow, we'll scout the trails on foot. Dress appropriately.
Leader: Peter O'Shea (315) 848-2178
Date: Saturday, January 5th, 2019, 10:00 to noon.

Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if possible. Leader: Claire Burkum, (315) 261-1884
NIGHT SKY
Say goodbye to the summer sky with an evening of star gazing. You'll take a tour of the sky using a telescope, binoculars and the unaided eye. We'll explore the mythology behind some of the constellations, and view star clusters, the Andromeda galaxy, and Saturn. Feel free to bring your own binoculars.
FALL WARBLERS AND OTHER MIGRANTS

Participants will view a wide variety of species on a hike through shrubland, marsh, wetland, and forest habitats along the Tower and Succession Trails.
