Indian Creek Nature Center
Canoe or Kayak the Marsh
Bring your own canoe/kayak, life jackets, and a whistle. Meet at DEC’s middle access road on CR 14. This is 1.6 mi. from Rt. 68 and 2.5 mi. from Rensselaer Falls.
Birding at the Nature Center
Come enjoy a bird walk at Indian Creek Nature Center with Linnea Rowse, Golden Winged Warbler Project Specialist. Bring binoculars!
Vernal Plants Exploration
Springtime in the forest – a time to greet new greenery and blooms. Join naturalist Don O'Shea at the East Entrance to celebrate this event with a survey of the wildflowers, forbs and trees along the Wildflower Loop. Please call before May 6th to register and get a possible rain date. Dress for possible brushy and wet areas.
Birding at the Nature Center
Come enjoy a bird walk at Indian Creek Nature Center. Participants will view a wide variety of of species on a hike through shrubland, marsh, wetland, and forest habitats along the Tower and Succession trails. A spotting scope will be used to view birds on the Lower Lake from the top of the observation tower. Bring binoculars!

Butterflies at the Nature Center
A leisurely walk to see what butterflies may be on the wing at the Nature Center. We'll discuss their life stories, note the plants they lay their eggs on, those they get nectar from, and special adaptations that help them survive. Although butterflies are the focus, we won't ignore moths, other insects, or any other aspect of nature history that presents itself.
Geologic Features of the Nature Center and the North Country
Join John Bursnall, Geology professor at St. Lawrence University, for a look at the geology of the Nature Center, as well as some road stops in the surrounding area.
Indian Creek Nature Center Dragonflies and Damselflies
Join Jan Trybula of SUNY Potsdam on a walk to look at dragonflies and damselflies, omnipresent aerial predators of most freshwater environments. Some nets will be available for those who want to get a closer look at these amazing creatures. At least 20 different species have been identified from ICNC, including the rare Horned Clubtail.
Pond Exploration
Join naturalist Pat Burdick and Jan Trybula of SUNY Potsdam in a pond exploration using dip nets to capture amphibians and macro invertebrates. We'll use magnifiers and field guides to learn about the animals we capture.
Exploring Moth Diversity
Jim Schulte, Biology Professor at Clarkson University, will lead a survey of moth diversity at the Indian Creek Nature Center. We'll set up a blacklight and discuss the major features of the many different groups of moths we may see.
