Come enjoy a spring bird walk at Indian Creek Nature Center. Participants will view a wide variety of species on a hike through shrubland, marsh, wetland, and forest habitats along the Tower and Succession Trails. A spotting scope will be used to view birds on Lower Lake from the top of the observation tower. Bring binoculars!

Meeting at the East Entrance parking lot, we'll hike through a natural woodland area to observe the trees, spring wildflowers and whatever else pops up during our ramble along the Wildflower Loop and adjacent environs. Call to register or to get an alternate date in case of bad weather. Dress appropriately for trail and weather conditions.

The Indian Creek Nature center hosts a wonderful array of interesting animals throughout the year. Peter O’Shea, local naturalist and author, will lead the group in identifying various creatures by their tracks and other unique features. If snow is sufficiently deep, trackers can bring their snowshoes or borrow them from the Nature Center. If no snow, we’ll scout the trails on foot. Dress appropriately.

Does nature inspire you to write? Join us for an afternoon of listening to inspiring nature writings from children’s literature to the classics and then create your own nature writing. We will find a comfortable place at the nature center to enjoy the beautiful surrounding which will inspire us to become nature writers. Bring a pad or journal and your preferred writing implement. We will write rain or shine. Call Carol to reserve your place at 212-2800. Writers of all ages welcome.

Come to nature center and look for birds as Fall migration begins. Indian Creek Nature Center provides a variety of food for the birds to feast on as they prepare for their long flights to their wintering locations. Many species travel thousands of miles from here. Come catch a glimpse before they are gone! Meet at main entrance.

Jim Schulte, Biology Professor at Clarkson University, will lead a survey of moth diversity at the ICNC. We'll set up a blacklight and discuss the major features of the many different groups of moths we may see. Weather permitting.

Fungi are fickle. We only find mushroom fruiting bodies when the weather cooperates. Mosses are more constant. During this class we will learn the basics of moss and mushroom identification. We will walk slowly through the woods, but we will walk so come prepared with appropriate shoes and coats. Meet at the main entrance. Dr. Karl McKnight is a co-author of the recently published book Common Mosses of the Northeast and Appalachians.
