North Country Voices: Canton Farmer's Market
The Canton Village Green is home to the Canton Farmer’s Market from May – October each year. I interviewed a few of the vendors to see how they got started and to learn how the season went. After all, who better to learn from when it comes to the state of our environment?
Valeria Maldonado
Val is a junior studying Psychology and Environmental Studies at St. Lawrence University. She is from Ponce, Puerto Rico and enjoys spending time relaxing at the beach, paddle boarding and taking pictures of the world around her! After interning with us this summer, Val decided to stay on to help with communications and graphic design.
Lydia Dwyer
Originally from Syracuse, Lydia is a senior at St. Lawrence University studying Biology & Spanish. When not attending school, Lydia enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, swimming, and learning about the environment. After enjoying serving as a summer naturalist intern with Nature Up North, Lydia is continuing to write for the Just Our Nature blog as an intern this fall.
Emlyn Crocker
Emlyn Crocker is 2015 graduate of St. Lawrence University, where she studied Conservation Biology. Since graduating she has pursued various ecological opportunities, working as a field biologist for the Loon Preservation Committee in New Hampshire, monitoring nesting leatherback sea turtles for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on St.
Erika Barthelmess
Nature Up North is the brainchild of Dr. Erika Barthelmess who is a vertebrate ecologist and conservation biologist. Erika works as an Associate Professor of Biology at St. Lawrence University. She earned her B.A. in Biology at Earlham College, her Ph.D.in Systematics and Ecology at the University of Kansas, and conducted post-doctoral research at Vanderbilt University before arriving at St.

Abby discovered her love for nature growing up in a small town in southern California just outside of Joshua Tree Nation park and now takes every opportunity to get outside. Snowvember
One of my favorite features of the North Country is our beautiful skies. This morning the trees are outlined with snow and the colors of the sky were gorgeous. I love the nature in my backyard!
