Insect Inns: Building Hotels for Bugs!
Bees, flies, beetles, moths, and more are busy bugs right about now - flying around, pollinating, and performing a host of ecosystem services! One popular way to invite these beneficial critters to your backyard is through what we’re calling “insect inns” but are also called bug hotels, insect hotels, and more. Join us Saturday, June 17th from 3:00 - 4:30 pm to learn a bit about the insects that these “hotels” can attract and why they’re important, the do’s and don’ts of building one, and then use the materials we provide to build your own “insect inn” to take home!
Summer Solstice Campfire
June 21st is the summer solstice - the official first day of summer and the longest day of the year. Come celebrate with us at a campfire the very next day on June 22nd! We'll start with a short walk on the Kip Trail, talk a bit about why the solstices and seasons happen and enjoy the Kip tract's forested wetland on a summer evening. Then we'll head back to the campfire to indulge in s'mores and a sun that won't set until nearly 9:00pm!
